Nerdcraft reviews FPSFreek

If you are looking to increase the number of s’mores you have while camping in MW2 you need to check out your local grocery, but if you want to increase you ability to aim faster and more accurately, well then let me show you something.

FPSFreek is a controller mod for PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers. Here is what KontrolFreek (the company who sells them) has to say:

“FPSFreek was developed to improve your accuracy in first person shooter environments, helping you react and hit your targets faster. FPS Freek extends the length of your analog stick, increasing your range of motion, giving you 40% more linear distance from full stop to stop. This gives you more leverage and increased control without disturbing your natural gaming feel. FPS Freek will help you to aim and lock in on your target faster, while putting less strain on your finger. “

I’ve had my pair of “Freeks” for about 2 weeks now. At first they were hard to put on (read: semi-difficult) then came the learning curve. These mods raise your joystick about a half inch and like the description says adds 40% more linear distance.  Naturally with anything new in gaming there is a learning process. I was surprised how comfortable these felt in my hands, although awkward at first. I will mention that these cannot teach you map layout or strategy for slaying n00bz, but with patience will let you play at a higher sensitivity easier and without feeling overwhelmed. These mods also boast 12 texture bumps, which is 8 (or 12 if yours have worn off) more than a standard Xbox 360 controller and 12 more than a PS3 controller because they have none to begin with.

Overall, I would recommend them to anyone who wants improve on their first person shooter skills.

PROS:
- More leverage to your joysticks.
- Increased texture bumps

CONS:
-Slight learning curve
-Doesn’t deliver s’mores to your camping spots
